Breast care is the branch of medicine that deals with the study, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of benign and malignant breast pathologies.

SYMPTOMS
Breast pathologies can manifest with various symptoms, the main ones being:
- Lumps or thickening in the breast area
- Changes in the shape or size of the breast (even if no lump is palpable)
- Redness in the breast area
- Nipple discharge (especially if bloody)
- Nipple retraction or skin changes or abnormalities
- Pain in the breast area
- Enlargement of axillary lymph nodes (axillary adenopathy)

BREAST SURGERY
Breast surgery is the branch of surgery that deals with the treatment of all breast pathologies, both benign and malignant.
The choice of the type of intervention takes into account the type of pathology present, the early diagnosis, the staging of the neoplasm, the dimensional relationship between the neoplasm and the breast, and also the patient’s preferences.
TREATMENT

Conservative Surgery:
Removal of the tumor mass with a portion of surrounding breast tissue (quadrantectomy) -
Radical Surgery:
Removal of the entire mammary gland (mastectomy)
Types of mastectomy:
- Skin-sparing mastectomy: conservative mastectomy that involves complete removal of the mammary gland while preserving the skin envelope;
- Nipple-sparing mastectomy or areola-nipple complex preservation: conservative mastectomy that involves complete removal of the mammary gland while preserving the areola-nipple complex -
Reconstructive/plastic/oncoplastic surgery:
Management or removal of lymph nodes in the axillary area. Sentinel lymph node biopsy: identification, removal, and histological analysis of the "first" lymph node from the lymphatic tract originating from the area of the neoplasm
- Sentinel lymph node positive for metastasis: complete axillary dissection is necessary.
- Sentinel lymph node negative for metastasis: it is assumed that other axillary lymph nodes are also negative, so complete axillary dissection is not performed
