Audiology and vestibology
Audiology is the branch of medicine concerned with the auditory system: the term is composed of the union of the Latin “audire” (“to hear”) and the Greek λόγος (“logos” = “knowledge”). The audiometric technician determines the patient’s hearing ability through tests such as audiometric examination; frequency deficits may require corrective interventions.
Vestibology is concerned with investigating and evaluating disorders affecting the vestibule (labyrinth), the organ responsible for providing balance.
