Dietetics is the branch of nutritional sciences that deals with processes related to nutrition, studying the effects of foods on the body’s metabolic processes.

It studies the relationship between nutrition and health to personalize diets with the aim of preventing diseases, treating existing conditions, and improving the patient’s overall well-being.

DIAGNOSIS
  • Nutritional consultation
  • Anthropometry:
    - Measurement of weight and height
    - Calculation of body mass index (BMI)
    - Measurement of waist, arm, and wrist circumference
    - Skinfolds: triceps, biceps, subscapular, suprailiac
  • Adipometry: measurement of subcutaneous adipose tissue
  • Assessment of physical activity in "LAF" and quantification of daily energy expenditure (TDEE)
  • Bio-impedance analysis: measurement of body composition in terms of lean mass and fat mass
  • Semi-quantitative dietary history: assessment of daily caloric intake
  • Blood analysis (The clinical specialist will request any necessary blood tests to complete the diagnostic assessment)

The family, pathological, physiological, dietary, and behavioral medical history is conducted through a thorough introductory interview: this is a crucial moment to understand the predisposition to developing disabling diseases, in order to adopt preventive strategies.

Dietetics, in synergy with other disciplines, can aid in the treatment of various conditions, including:

  • Metabolic disorders (diabetes, dyslipidemias (high cholesterol), hyperuricemia, ...)
