Anesthesia and Intensive Care

The anesthesia and intensive care service is available every day, Monday through Saturday, from 8 AM to 8 PM. In case of urgency or necessity, the service is available on-call 24/7 throughout the year, including holidays.

Anesthesia is a medical technique that enables surgical procedures or diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to be performed safely and comfortably using drugs to temporarily and reversibly block sensitivity/pain (analgesia) and consciousness, and to induce muscle relaxation and memory loss of the event (amnesia).

  • General Anesthesia involves the entire body, resulting in a state of analgesia, unconsciousness/hypnosis, muscle relaxation, and amnesia
  • Local or loco-regional anesthesia: affects only a specific part of the body, resulting in local analgesia and muscle relaxation. During the procedure, the patient may be awake or sedated.
TREATMENT
  • Pre-operative specialist consultation
  • Post-operative specialist consultation
  • Anesthesiological activity in the operating room

The following techniques are applied:

  • Classic general anesthesia
  • Combined general anesthesia
  • Local anesthesia
  • Spinal and epidural anesthesia
  • Loco-regional anesthesia with plexus blocks for both upper/lower limb surgery
  • Sedation for endoscopic and radiological diagnostic procedures
  • Post-operative pain management
  • Post-surgical care
  • Extended post-operative monitoring for patients who require it
  • Management of post-operative intensive care (2 intensive care stations)
  • Pain therapy for chronic or post-operative symptoms

INTENSIVE CARE

Intensive care is the branch of medicine that deals with monitoring and treating critical patients with the aim of restoring compromised vital functions.

It provides comprehensive intensive patient support (respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, nephrological, and metabolic functions) through intensive monitoring of vital functions and through the effects of continuous infusion drugs and invasive and extracorporeal devices.

TREATMENT

The admissions to the 2 intensive care stations include:

  • Continuous intensive monitoring (continuous surveillance of patient vital functions)
  • Life support including through biomedical equipment
  • Management of potential emergencies

The Villa Stuart Clinic is affiliated with major insurance companies and supplementary health care funds.
