Graduated from La Sapienza University in Rome with a degree in Medicine and Surgery with highest honors in 1975.
Specialized in Physiokinesiotherapy and Medical Gymnastics in Orthopedics at the same University in Rome with highest honors in 1979.
A long experience as an internist physician starting from 1976. Volunteer Assistant at the State Higher Institute of Physical Education by appointment of Prof. G. Maritozzi, “Chair in Food Sciences” in the Academic Years 1994/’95 and 1995/’96 and “Chair of Sports Medicine and First Aid” in the Academic Year 1994/’95.
For two years, he served as the physician for the junior national Modern Pentathlon team.
For about 15 years, Dr. Arena has been working at Villa Stuart Clinic (Rome), gaining considerable experience in Post-Operative Rehabilitation, knee prostheses, hip prostheses, and polytrauma of the upper and lower limbs. His background as an Internist and simultaneous interest in Physiatry and Rehabilitation have naturally led him to focus on all chronic and acute Pathologies in the osteoarticular field: arthritis and pathologies of the spine, shoulder, knee, hip, foot, which he has deepened with intense outpatient activity at Villa Stuart Clinic.
During this period, Dr. Arena was among the first in Rome to conduct, on behalf of the “Dornier” company, a study on shock wave therapy practice in all painful pathologies, recruiting a substantial case series of over 350 patients with various conditions.
In the same period, he was among the first to take an interest in recent physical treatments with IPT, TECAR THERAPY, etc.
Currently, he maintains an intense outpatient practice and oversees the departments for post-operative rehabilitation at Villa Stuart Clinic in Rome, on a full-time basis.
